As we approach the first half term break of the academic year we encourage all of our students to use this time away from school to read as much as possible. Students should be reading books that both challenge them and entertain them. At Trinity, it is our goal to foster a love of reading for pleasure. On page 33 of the school journal, students will find a list of 16 books that we challenge them to read before they are 16. Books include the likes of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', 'Lord of the Flies' and 'To Kill a Mockingbird' to name just a few. Students will also find in their journals the "50 books a year" reading log that was successfully completed by a number of students last year! Young people who enjoy reading are three times as likely to read above the level expected for their age as young people who do not enjoy reading at all. The correlation between reading regularly for pleasure and subsequent success across the curriculum has been proven time and time again. We encourage parents and guardians to take up these reading challenges along with their sons/daughters to motivate them further. We wish all of our students a thoroughly enjoyable half term break - full of books!
